At 1110hrs CHFD was dispatched to 364 Chestnut Hill Rd for a reported residential structure fire. C28 arrived, to find heavy fire showing from the C/D side. Engine1 arrived shortly after and stretched an 1 3/4 to the D side, knocking down a majority of the exterior fire while a second line was being stretched to the front door. Truck 1's members forced the front door & began primary searches which were hindered by Collier's Mansion conditions throughout the entire residence. The second due Engine company began vertical & horizontal ventilation to lighten interior conditions. Primary & secondary searches turned up negative & the fire was placed under control a short while later. Thanks to all who responded!

10/15 East Haddam Structure Fire
After the initial knock down - look at the charring & burn-through of the engineered lamb beams (which were supporting the #1 floor). There was no real fire load within the space & the beams were brought to failure. AS A SUGGESTION: Companies operating on the floors above need to be aware of fire conditions & fire location, as well as building construction features. A proper 360 will often provide vital information for command strategies & tactical operations.
***Even though there was no structural collapse, dynamic loading of firefighters operating on the floor above (Primary searches or fire attack), could have been sufficient to cause such collapse injuring or killing firefighters.***
