01/31 Lebanon Structure Fire

Colchester's FAST team was put to work while operating at structure fire in Lebanon. Companies battled the stubborn fire, which was located in the attic of a remodeled mobile home. The fire was placed under control a short while later. Nice job by all on scene!

Relaxing day at the firehouse? Not at the 28! A walk-in reports a house fire behind the firehouse. Déjà vu? You're correct! CHFD Fact: On February 18, 2003 the same exact thing happened. A walk-in reported a house fire behind the firehouse. On arrival, companies found a 2½ wood frame residential house w/ hvy fire showing. The Catch...? (3ft of snow & freezing conditions.) Now fast forward to January 27, 2013 (Almost 10 years later!).....Companies arrived to find 2 floors of hvy fire, with fire extending into the attic. The first due Engine used it's blitz fire to knock back the quickly advancing fire. Interior crews were held back by the already deteriorating stairs & floor. 4 lines were stretched & 3 placed into operation while the truck opened up. The fire was placed under control 3 hours after the initial alarm of fire. Thanks to all that responded. ALSO: Nice job by the covering companies in handling a dumpster fire while the CHFD was tied up!

01/17 New Extrication Equipment!

CHFD just recently switched over from HURST extrication equipment to TNT! Feel free to stop by the Firehouse & check them out! On-site training will be taking place over the next couple of weeks - keep your eyes open & if you have any question please feel free to ask!

01/15 East Haddam Cold Water Rescue

Colchester, Salem, & East Haddam responded to Lake Hayward for a cold water rescue. A K-9 had fallen through the ice & the dog's owner attempted to save it by kayaking his way out onto the ice. The kayaker then flipped his kayak & became stuck within the unstable ice. A rescue team was deployed with cold water suits and a 2nd & 3rd rescue team remained on standby. Both were rescued & taken for evaluation. (The kayaker & K-9 have since returned home to the safe, warm confines of their home.)
